Trapped In Work (No More!). Sunrise.
At the time of this writing I will have been working in corporate America for nearly 16 of my 41 years on this planet. In 11 days that will come to an end. Because we have saved and invested aggressively over that period—and because I’ve earned a decent income—we are in a position where we can afford to take some risk. Not an unlimited amount, but some.
In this blog I plan to document how this experiment goes. I’m not the first to write about this, and I have been greatly encouraged by the community of Financial Independence bloggers that have been doing great work (I’d say a public service) for many years now. I hope I can add but a marginal amount of value to the dialogue.
Our situation is maybe slightly different because we are a family of five, with three young children. Here I will discuss and analyze our successes and failures in this journey—our ability to contain our spending notwithstanding the habits of our hyper-consumptive peers; our investment philosophy and approach; our tax planning strategies; and our lifestyle decisions. I’m hoping that this public disclosure of our adventure will help to keep us on track. And I hope it will be fun.
I intend to speak freely here. About our financial situation. About the situations of those around us. Good to meet you, I’ll go by Joe Freedom. The sun rises in 11 days.
